Happy New Year, from the top of Newtontoppen, the highest mountain on Spitsbergen.

In 2010 I am going out for a one year expedition on Spitsbergen. One year living on the ice, snow and glaciers with the only comfort: a tent/igloo or snow cave. My mascot on this trip is “Harry the Polar Bear”.
Allthough most of the time I will be alone, participants are welcome to join parts of this expedition. Many special winter- and Summeractivities for participants will be organised around this expedition. See the signs on the left side on this page.

On this trip, named “Living on Frozen Water” my mission is to emphasize two major points:

- People needs water to live
- Polar Bear needs ice to live

These two points seem to be in contradiction, but have more in common than you might see at first glance.
Clean drinking water is essential for everyone, and ice is essential for polar bear survival. Both water availability and quality are affected by the same human behaviours that are causing us to lose our polar ice caps. In the long run, it is human behaviour which makes it very hard for the polar bear to survive.

On this page you will see 3 drawings which I’m using to promote the trip, showing the three main seasons on Spitsbergen: Darkness, Winter and Summer. My mascot, “Harry the Polar Bear” is on the drawings.

I am living one year from the water on Spitsbergen, it will be interesting to see if this water is clean and how the water, snow and ice is changing in one year. The arctic climate will make this trip very hard. I have an enormous drive which will keep me going through many bad weather days. Although most of the time I will be alone like a polar bear, I will invite other people to visit me.
I hope that the people in this world will see much better, through my one year expedition, what the effects are of global warming/pollution for the arctic climate, the arctic landscape and the arctic wildlife.

I have many ideas for activities during this one year expedition and about promoting my trip,
Some of them will be placed on this website.
The picture below shows how my base camp should look like during the darkness days:

This website will grow every day, so please come back again.

This expedition will start in September 2010.
