Bike Generator

Charging my batteries and keep me warm.

The bike-generator inside an igloo during the Living on Frozen Water Expedition in 2012.

This is a removable construction in a sledge to charge a 12 volt battery.
The frame and the rearwheel of a bike is placed upside down on the sledge..
Two small electric 24 volt DC motors driven by the rearwheel (using a belt) will charge the battery.
I can rotate the pedals with my legs and my arms.
This creation, works like a very small generator.
It will take some hours to charge up the battery.
But this will keep me busy, and most of all .....warm, because I am using my muscles.
I can place the bike generator in a tent or snowcave.

This bike generator has been used during my Living on Frozen Water Expedition during 2011-2012.
It is the best to start charging the battery if it is still half full, easier to bike the battery full again.
If the battery is empty, you feel that you have to give much more power (with the legs or arms) to charge the battery.
See the pictures and the 2 small video's.
