Ski Tour Adventdalen

Exiting trip during the 'Living On Frozen Water' expedition.
A 12-days trip with a 8 days ski-tour, May 19th - May 30th 2011

The Adventdalen valley is near by the village Longyearbyen. The upper part of this valley is forbidden for snowscooters. This is the place where we will be the most of our time during this ski-tour. Adventdalen is a low and wide valley. The valley is situated 100-150 meters above sealevel with mountainpeaks until 1450 meters. There is enough hight difference. These mountainpeaks are surrounded by many small glaciers. The small glaciers are our 'roads' during this ski tour.

We will see many footprints of the arctic fox and maybe we will see one.

At day 3 snowscooters will bring the participants into Gipsdalen, this valley is just east of Adventdalen. We ski towards Adventdalen. When we reach the upper part of the Adventdalen valley we make a basecamp. Depending the situations we make various daytrips from our basecamp. The sledges stay behind at the camp. It can also happen that we go to other camps. We ski then with all our luggage in the sledges to a new campsite.
With nice weather we will try to reach a mountaintop or a high mountaincol to enjoy a beautiful arctic mountainview.
On our last day in the mountains we ski back to the village Longyearbyen. The total ski distance is not long, it is depending on which daytrips we are making.
During this trip we can maybe spot a arctix Fox. Adventdalen is also a very favourite valley for reindeers.
