Crossing Spitsbergen Glaciers on Rollerski's

Love the arctic mountainlive.

My SweNor Rollerski's.

It is possible to go on rollerski's over blue glaciers...... if you know how to go on that glacier.
I have been many times in that area and will be there for another year.
So time enough for me to find out the perfect way to go with rollerski's and do the shortest Spitsbergen South to North crossing. See the map. The distance will be ± 24 km. It will take some days to complete this trip.
Before I reach the glacier I have to follow a mountain valley and find a way through the moraines.
I think I will wait until the riverstream is frozen (starts in September), so I can go over the river to the glacier.
Going up the blue glacier will go perfect on rollerski's, but going down .......... that will take some time to do it safe.
It will be an awesome trip.

The light green line is the shortest Spitsbergen South to North Crossing, from Isfjorden to Wijdefjorden.

For my training activities I use my rollerski's many times and for many hours.
I use stiff leather mountain ski boots on my rollerski's, then I can also practise the skating movement a little bit.
I am using the SweNor rollerski's with the wider wheels, which give me the possibility to go on small walking/biking tracks in the forest.
Those small tracks are not always free of small branches. Good training for your balance and quick reactions. For long endurance training I use the wider bike tracks which have a underground made of gravel.
The longest day distance on rollerski's I did sofar is 106 km..............
Sometimes I take a sledge or a kayak behind me, they are also placed on rollerski's then.
See the pictures below.

Video of the first part of this rollerski project.

In October 2010 the conditions were good to do the first part: From Petunia bukta (the fjord on the South side) towards the Ragner Glacier.
I went with rollerski's over the frozen Ragner river up towards the Ragner glacier.
All the way up I had a sledge behind me. The other parts will be done next summer: going up the Ragner glacier and then going down the Mittag-Leffler glacier.
