Daytrips on Ski's around Longyearbyen

A 9-days trip on Spitsbergen, March 30th - April 7th 2014
All the overnights during this trip take place in a guesthouse. We sleep in 2-persons rooms and we eat our breakfast and dinner in the guesthouse. From this guesthouse we make several ski daytrips in the mountain area's around the small Longyearbyen settlement.
During wintertime cars and snowscooters are used by the locals and tourist for transportation/sightseeing trips. Some area's around Longyearbyen are forbidden for snowscooters, so here we got the snow for ourselves. Although we can hear the snowscooters every day we will mostly visit area's where not to many snowscooters will come.
We can make all kind of daytrips on our ski's, depanding on weatherconditions.

On one daytrip (bad weather day) we can visit an ice-cave on the Longyearbyen glacier. We can reach this ice-cave after a short ski trip. During this week there is one spare day, for sight seeing in the Longyearbyen settlement.
During the daily ski-trips we will take our light day bagpacks with us, filled with our lunch and extra clothes etc...
To go and see the nicest places in the mountains we will sometime use a short taxi/snowscooter drive to bring us to the starting place or pick us up at the end off the day.

Here a brief description of the programme for the Adventdalen Ski Tour (programme structure might change):
  • 1. First day: March 30th, Arrival with plane at Longyearbyen.
  • 2-7. Daily ski-trips, sometimes with taxi or snowscooter drop-of or pick-up.
  • 8. Sightseeing day Longyearbyen, or on another day during this week (during bad weather).
  • 9. Last day: April 7th, Departure with the plane from Longyearbyen.

    The price of this 9-days trip on Spitsbergen is € 1406,- p.p.

      In this price is included:
    1. 8 overnights in Longyearbyen in chambers in a guesthouse
    2. A travel insurance which also covers all the cost of an emergency rescue if necessary,
    3. The use of a snowshovel and bivi-sack.(this will be carried in the daypacks)
    4. Professional guide, the guide will take care that the programme (as mentioned here above) will be done safe. The guide take care that all the necessarry and obligated equipment, which is needed to make day trips on Spitsbergen, will be used/carried during this trip .
    5. Transport with a snowscooter/taxi-bus to the start/pick-up during some day-trips (if necessary).
    6. The participants will receive information and instructions about the necessary clothes (detailed packing list),
      and about the safety aspects on Spitsbergen (Polarbear protection).
      Not included:
    1. Meals during this 9 days trip in Longyearbyen: It is possible to cook and have meals together durings the overnights in the Longyearbyen or use the breakfast- and dinnerservice in the guesthouse.
    2. Cross country ski's for back country skiing (no randonnee ski's), the skins.
      It is possible to hire these equipment by Fjell Tours (only if booking is made before March 1st 2014). The participants will receive information about this.
    3. The flight to and from Spitsbergen.
    4. Transport from/towards the airport to/from our overnight stay in Longyearbyen.(about € 6,- one way)

    The participants can hire specific equipment/clothes (like ski's, downjacket, extra sleepingbag, extra matrass, etc.) by Fjell Tours, (only if booking is made before February 1st 2014), see for this:

    To join this trip the participant must have:
    1. Good cross country ski touring experience.
    2. a Good condition.
    3. Flexibility, The plan for the day can change rapidly, or the daily schedule is changing.
