Sea-kayaking around South Lofoten (North Norway)

Thursday 28th August 2008: 4th day of the trip. Paddling in the Reinefjorden.

Walking up the Sea-kayak to the mountaincol (point 8).

I started early this morning with walking the sea-kayak to Reinefjorden. The walking distance is about 1,5 km. The first 600 meters goes over sand, then up a grashill to the mountaincol (point 8). The col is not high, 80 meters above sea level, and only at the last part to the col there are some rocks to take care for (see picture above). From the col down to the fjord I can walk totally over grass. I transported the kayak like a pulk (sledge), behind me.
Comparing what I normally transport on trips on Spitsbergen this was a relative easy transport.
There was blue sky at the ocean side of Lofoten but when I reached the col I saw clouds on the other parts in Lofoten. This take place often in Lofoten: Blue sky at the west side and clouds at the east side or switched (visa versa).

After transported the sea-kayak to the fjord side I walked back to get my other equipment. When everything was on the fjordside I packed the sea-kayak and paddled to point 9 in Kjerkfjorden (18).
It was nice and easy paddling in the fjords and I was now completely surrounded by steep mountains. There was wind in the fjords but the waves were much easier to handle.
After I pitched my tent at point 9, a nice view point, I paddled to the end of Kjerkfjorden and walked up to mountaincol 10 (300 meter a.s.l.). Allthough it was cloudly the view was nice, see the pictures below.
In the evening, when I paddled back to my tent, there was no wind and the water in the fjord was completely flat. This was nice paddling, making your own waves. It was said that it was getting dark and that I placed my tent allready, otherwise I should continue paddling.
