My Igloo
Living in the Spitsbergen mountains.

One of my big igloo's during the "Living on Frozen Water" expedition.
Look at the "door/window" in that igloo.

Standing beside my huge igloo, the expeditions flags and the tent.
All pictures on this page taken in Rondane National Park, South Norway.
Sleeping in a igloo or a snowcave might be much warmer during the dark season (December,
January and February).
As soon as the sun is shining again, the tent will be heated up
by the sun, then the tent might be warmer.
I will try it out and see what is the best.

Picture taken inside the igloo.
I have been building my biggest igloo this winter. It was a 3 days job!!
It was big enough for
7-8 people to sleep in it. I could stand in it in the middle of it.
Maybe I will put a tent in my igloo on Spitsbergen, just to keep the snow out of my equipment.

A Campfire inside the igloo!.
For sure, sleeping in an igloo or snowcave is more quiet then sleeping in a tent.
In an igloo/snowcave it is completely silent.
I have to think about a second warning system if
a polarbear approach my campsite because I probable won't hear the warning flares.
During the sommermonths (July & August) my igloo might melt down and fall apart. We will see what will happen.

Testing the strenght of the igloo by standing on the top of my Igloo.
